Weekly Assignment 1
1. What do you think?
One of the most common challenges is when a participant invites you to join the discussion and asks what do you think. How would you respond?
As facilitator who becomes involved in the content discussion I should let the group know that he or she is stepping out of the facilitator role.
Consequently, if participants ask me directly and want me to give them my personal point of view, I will try to be neutral and redirect the question to another children to ask and continue with the conversation.
2. Participants think alike
You are facilitating a dialogue about climate change. The group seems to have a unified and one-sided discussion (that global warming is not human-made). You feel there is a lot missing to the discussion. What do you do?
As teacher, I would try to manage the topic showing my students some ideas included in a map with essential information they need to talk about and discuss. I would try to explain to them that there are other visions and positions that we should comment on. I would suggest them to explain the background of their ideas and I would try to encourage them into a deeper reflection.
